Creative Strategies
For this project, I implemented the 6 different creative strategies using one object, which was a hair comb. The comb is used differently in each design and demonstrates a different strategy.
#1 - Physical/Shape Similarity: This strategy uses physical similarities to show connections between objects that don't normally connect.
A hair comb is displayed as a grocery store bar code for the milk.  The creative strategy of physical shape similarity was used, as it's similar to a barcode but still wouldn't normally be related to one.
#2 - Change of Context/Environment: This strategy contrasts objects with unnatural or uncommon environments to highlight a concept or communicate an idea.
I used this creative strategy, change of context/environment, by placing a hair comb in the park to reenact being used as a bike rack. This contrasts it's usual size, environment, and context.
#3 - Material Swap: This strategy swaps a material property that we are accustomed to with another.
The pencils together symbolize a comb through the creative strategy of material swapping.  Like the rest of the images, each design uses a comb to make up a picture where it usually wouldn't fit.  In this picture, the shape of the pencils are similar to a comb, especially how it comes to a point at the end.
#4 - Simile: This strategy is focused on the meaning of the image created with your object as it relates to something else.
In this design, a comb is being used a ladder to get to the top of the house for construction. The comb is the same shape as a ladder, so they look similar.
# 5 - Juxtaposition: Objects are combined to surprise the viewer.
Using the similarities of a jail cell window, the comb replaces the metal bars. This is surprising to the viewer, because usually the window would be barred up with metal, and not a comb.
# 6 - Isolation: This strategy focuses the viewer on an element in a composition by separating it visually from its surroundings or other objects.
Usually a comb is used with a mirror, or in some sort of vanity. This design displays a vanity that usually is filled with makeup and cosmetic products on top or surrounding it, but there is just a comb. The comb is a different color than the black and white picture to isolate it even more.
